i believe

so, lately i haven't really believed in people, or anything for that matter if you know what i mean. i'm lost and bogged down with pointless readings and papers and uncharacteristically apathetic about my work. and today, after catching up on a weeks worth of notifications from my cohort's facebook group, or also known as the "anxiety vortex" (Harris, 2011) which was so perfectly coined by liz, i went for my little run across from my apartment by the unt campus- at least i have been keeping up with my new year resolution!

anyway, usually when i run, i pass a few unt'ers but don't expect anything short of a glance (which has been quite an adjustment after living in aggieland for four years) and as i was running this evening i passed a fellow runner whose smile i could see from a mile away. i thought it was strange, and even stranger when as he passed he made hand gesture as if to high five me. of course, i totally wasn't expecting it, so my hand wasn't up in time, but we laughed and went on with our run.

on my way back, and as fate would have it, on smiley runner's way back, we passed once more and raised our arms forming a perfect high five. i laughed and smiled to myself the whole way home and realized that smiley runner's high five(s) meant a lot to me. and even though it probably didn't mean anything to him or anyone else for that matter, it made my week. so thank you smiley runner for giving me faith in people and in my future.

this post title also reminds me of miracle on 34th street which really makes me happy too.

have a good week! xo
